FOR VALESA SHAVETTE JOHNSON WELLS
Mrs. Valesa S. J. Wells is a lifelong citizen of the City of Memphis
and a product of the Memphis City School System. Having graduated
from Fairley High School, Mrs. Wells joined the United States Navy
where she served a total of eight years of active and reserve duties.
Mrs. Wells further matriculated at the University of Memphis where
she received a Bachelor of Arts (Cum Laude) in Professional and
Technical Writing. She is currently pursuing an MBA in Finance from
the University of Memphis.
By profession, Mrs. Wells provides financial advice to cities and counties
and their governmental entities. Mrs. Wells’ service to clients
includes: planning, scheduling, coordinating, and managing complex municipal bond projects; providing extensive quantitative and technical analysis to support and assist local and state governments in the research, development and implementation of best practices related to debt management and budget development; and, conducting governmental operational efficiency studies and translating the client’s overall vision and objectives into a detailed work plan for departmental implementation. Mrs. Wells also works closely with clients to develop
comprehensive credit presentations which demonstrate the client’s
historical financial performance relative to industry benchmarks,
management practices, and provides a detailed look into the client’s
long-term strategy for capital investment, economic development
and debt management.
Mrs. Wells is an active member of Bethel Church Of God In Christ
where she serves as an Executive Board Member of the Department
of Women’s Ministries, Academic Counselor for the Department
of Youth Ministries, and Director of Web Services. Mrs. Wells is
also an active participant in Partners In Education with the church’s
adopted school, Grandview Heights Elementary, for whom she also
serves as Angel Tree Coordinator benefiting students in need at
Grandview. Mrs. Wells is married to Pastor Dickerson L. S. Wells.
The two of them are blessed with four children: ZaQuita,
Dickerson II, Chantelle, Chandler and their nephew Tyler.
Mrs. Wells is a graduate of the Leadership Memphis Class of 2008
and currently serves on the Memphis City Beautiful Commission and
holds the office of Secretary. Her other civic and volunteer activities
include serving as a volunteer for Junior Achievement of Memphis
and the Mid-South and as a volunteer reader for FM89.3 WYPL Radio
(a radio news program designed for the visually and print impaired.)
